ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to ten years in prison and accountability court also imposed a £8 million fine in the Avenfield reference on Friday while his daughter Maryam Nawaz was sentenced to seven years with a £2 million fine. Nawaz Sharif’s son in law Muhammad Safdar was given a one year sentence.
Accountability Court-I, Judge Mohammad Basheer announced the verdict today at 4:30 pm.
Moreover, Maryam was sentenced one year prison for submitting false documents in court.
The court has also ordered that to sieze the Avenfield properties.
The Avenfield properties reference was filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in 2017, following the Supreme Court’s verdict against Panama Papers case of Nawaz Sharif. According to this reference, Sharif family is the owner of apartments at Avenfield House, London.
According, NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi said the accused have 10 days to file an appeal against the verdict.
